INVITING ALL MEN: There is still room (and time) to sign up for this summer's MEN'S RETREAT.The dates are August 7-9 at Camp Mimanagish. We will begin with dinner on Friday night and conclude with lunch on Sunday. If you've never attended such a retreat, this summer might just be the time to try it out! Our theme is Facing Questions in our Time- a theme that grows out of the writing of Ernest Hemingway?and in particular, his collection of short stories entitled In Our Theme. The first eight to sign up will receive a free copy of these stories. All are encouraged to read the stories ahead of time so that we might share in discussion how Hemingway's writing corresponds with our own stories and faith. I will share insights into Hemingway's writing and you will be invited to share from your own experiences. Helping me in this process will be Pastor Robert Shy of Colstrip and Maurie Petterson of Columbus. Robert will lead several devotional times and Maurie will share stories from his career in the military. So REGISTER NOW on line at www.campmimanagish.org. Where else can you get lodging for two nights, six delicious meals, and meaningful time in the beauty of the mountains all for only $90.00? I hope to see you at camp! -Randy Hyvonen Life breaks us all sometimes, but some grow strong at broken places. -Ernest Hemingway The Christ United Methodist WINDOWS PROJECT is almost complete! The 27th General Synod is now history. Carol Shipley, Chairperson of the Nominating Committee for the denomination, was present June 26-30 in GENERAL SYNOD 27 RECAP by Carol Shipley I am very honored to have once again had the privilege to attend General Synod June 26-30 with the theme "Immerse Yourself". I have served on the denomination's nominating committee for the last three bienniums, serving as chairwoman for this Synod. It is always a good experience to work and be immersed in the national setting of the United Church of Christ. I have made friends from all over the Although worship experiences are always meaningful and powerful, this Synod was especially so with great music and preaching. We had the opportunity to hear from John Thomas for the last time as our President and General Minister and then elected the Rev. Geoffrey Black as our new leader. My impression is that he will lead us and represent us well. Of course, there is always business to address. Thirteen committees dealt with resolutions, many of them regarding social justice issues. Nine, however, addressed the structuring of the church. With these economic times, the church is experiencing what the rest of our nation, businesses and individuals are facing. A single governance structure is being suggested. The body voted to accept the committee's one substitute resolution which establishes a group to convene to devise a single governance system; they are to report back to the General Synod 2011. There are many wonderful things to share so please ask me about General Synod. Thank you for your support and prayers as I traveled to do the work of the church.
