WEDNESDAY NIGHT LIVE!

It is amazing when people open themselves to new possibilities with God's help!  We listening to the winds of the Spirit as we look to provide family-friendly, intergenerational opportunities for ministry and growth.  With that in mind, we begin something new this month ~ WEDNESDAY NIGHT LIVE!  It is a vision of bringing together young and old, new folks and longtime members.  It is a reclaiming of Wednesday as "Church and Family Night" and will allow us to experience Food, Fun, Fellowship, and Formation.  Please join us this Wednesday, September 9 at 5:30 P.M. for supper. Experience a simple meal and relax as we sing some fun songs.  Prayerfully consider where YOU are called to help with this ministry, whether by washing dishes, helping with a meal, leading or helping on a project with our kids, assisting our youth, or participating in an adult small group.  This is a great opportunity to invite someone not connected with a church.  Let us find God and one another at WEDNESDAY NIGHT LIVE!  For all ages?infant to elderly (nursery care provided).

5:30 P.M.  Supper   6:00 P.M. . Songs, Devotions, etc.   6:15 P.M.  break into youth and small adult groups.

TOWN PUMP/FISH CHALLENGE

Town Pump has once again selected FISH as a recipient of the "Be a Friend, Helping Those In Need" food bank program fundraising campaign.  Town Pump will match up to $7,500 contributed to FISH between September 1 and November 30.  What a wonderful way for FISH to raise $15,000 in support of their program!  If you would like to help FISH reach this goal, please make a donation as we receive our FISH offering the first Sunday of the month.  (FISH is an all-volunteer food pantry supported by 13 churches in Great Falls and is one of three free food pantries in the area, the other two being Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul).

HARVEST EXCHANGE TABLE

There is still time to participate in the Harvest Exchange Table and share in each other's bounty.  Bring any garden produce, flowers, preserves, or whatever the harvest time brings you, and donate them to the table.  After worship, visit the table and take what you would like.  We just ask that you leave a donation, if able.  The table will continue as long as the gardens grow!

SPIN FOR PRAYER SHAWLS

Spinning our own yarn is a grounded, prayerful way of creating prayer shawls that take us from fleece to a finished shawl, to be donated to our Prayer Shawl Ministry programs.  The shawls are for weddings, funerals, baptisms, commissions, homeless shelters, VA hospitals, Peace Hospice, etc.  Denise Jackson will lead a 6-week class this fall.  Participants will each get enough Superwash wool to make a beautiful shawl as well as a drop spindle to learn how to spin, breathe, and slow down our thoughts to focus on the healing powers of prayer.  There is a material fee of $25, paid to Denise.  The class will meet either on Wednesdays or Saturdays.  You will need to spin in between classes.  To sign up, please contact Denise Jackson at meagi1@bresnan.net or call her at 868-1930. You will be able to choose from 16 colors of wool when you sign up.

The office is in the process of developing our new 2009/10 Church Directory.  We are hoping to have these ready for our Homecoming Sunday Service on September 20.  In an effort to be as accurate as possible, we are asking you to contact the office with any updates or changes.  Email addresses are great, as are cell phone numbers, if you wish to make these public.  Please contact the office with your new or updated information ASAP!

CONFERENCE NEWS

At the August 22, 2009 Conference Board meeting the decision was prayerfully made to eliminate the Associate Conference Minister position on June 30, 2010.  The Board is grateful to the Rev. Michael Obenauer for his current 7 ½ years service to this Conference.  Michael has been instrumental in the very successful Church Vitality Project meetings in each Association.  He has staffed a number of Program Committees, taught in the Lay Ministry Institute, has led workshops, and been a listening, compassionate and helpful friend to clergy, churches, and lay members of the Conference.  We will miss this good and faithful servant of God's work and in the meantime, will enjoy his presence over the next ten months.

The 8th Day Offering, of individual gifts to the work and ministry of the Montana-Northern Wyoming Conference, is now in its fourth year and our hopes for the 2009 budget remain high!  A benefit dinner will be held on Saturday, September 12, at the Mayflower Church in Billings.  The dinner has been planned by the Rev. Ken Crouch, Associate Pastor of the Mayflower UCC and will begin at 4:30 P.M. with Hors d'oevres, followed by a catered dinner at 5:00 P.M.  The cost for the evening is $45.00.  Tickets are available in Yellowstone Association church offices.

A Fall Retreat of Heart, Body, and Soul is being presented by the Western Association September 25-26 at the University Congregational Church in Missoula.  With great excitement, we welcome Mr. Masankho Bando as our retreat leader.  Originally from Malawi, Central Africa, Mr. Banda is an International Peace Builder, Educator, and Certified InterPlay Leader.  His mission and ministry are to build peace, create harmony, create bridges between divided people and inspire and celebrate diversity.  To register, please call the office and let us know of your intention to attend, (406) 453-4316.  All are welcome but space is limited.  Preference will be given to members of the eight Western Association churches.  While the Association budget is covering a good part of the retreat, a $25 donation is asked for to offset the cost of our time with Mr. Banda.

HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  IS GOD CALLING YOU?

CAMP MIMANAGISH WRAPS UP ANOTHER SUMMER

Thank you to all who supported this summer's Camp Mimanagish season!  Counselors play a huge role in the success of camp, and this year we had Janet Koostra directing the 3rd/4th grade camp with camp counselor Stacy Hopkins.  Christine Brauer and Chris Kosmerl counseled the 5th/6th grade camp.  Christine Brauer was also a counselor for the 7th-9th grade camp, as well as the Senior High camp!   Of course camp would not be camp without our campers!  In the 3rd/4th grade camp were Olivia Gittins and Cole Staigmiller.  In the 5th/6th grade camp; Will Hoard, Molly Koostra, Taryn Kosmerl, and Kessa Rigali.  7th-9th grade camp included Alex Johnson, Darian Keels, Zoie Koostra, Jonah Kosmerl, Micah Kosmerl, Sarah Petersen, Sam Shearin, and Trevin Thompson.  Max Johnson and JJ Petersen attended the Senior High camp.  A big thank you to the Bertsche Memorial for providing $1,800 in financial assistance for our campers!

Dear Friends and Family,
It is with joy and a profound sense of gratitude that I am sharing with all of you that I graduated May 24, 2009, with my Master of Divinity from Pacific School of Religion.  My four and a half year journey through seminary has come to a close and I want each of you to know how important and essential your support has been to me in this process.  Truly, my life is interconnected with yours and blessed as a result.  Please accept my heartfelt thanks for all the ways you have given to me.  It is my deep wish that I am able to give to you as I have been given to and that my years spent in preparation for ministry have helped in my ability to do so.
With love and warm regards, Judith
(ed note:  Judith Holloway was a recipient of the Bertsche Memorial Seminary Scholarship)
