       HOLY LANDS TOUR 2011

If you have never been, or would like to experience this amazing journey again, now is the time to start planning!  Join Rev. Lyle Hamilton (Kama's dad) for 12 days of Biblical Discovery inJerusalem, Galilee, Bethlehem and Jericho.  Depart on January 24, 2011 from Great Falls.  There is a pre-tour option for Jordan as well as a post-tour option to Egypt or Rome and Assisi.  For pricing and brochures, please contact Rev. Jim Petersen.  You may want to follow in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul and join Rev. Jim Petersen on a cruise to Greece and Turkey in March 2011, a journey that a few dozen took in 2001. Brochures and exact dates are not yet available. As more information is offered, we will share it with you so that you may decide if this is your desire.

A quote from Rev. Jim's  Let the Journey Begin sermon last Sunday:  "We will be tempted to create kingdoms in this world.  We will be tempted by the powers we possess and want more.  We will be tempted to seek glory for ourselves.  Jesus was tempted by these same three things, following forty days and nights in the wilderness, and he rejected them.  He rejected them all, for these three things - the kingdom, the power, and the glory - belong to God.  Sound familiar?  This is why Jesus taught us to pray, ?Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.' "

Discovering the Journey

"As a people of God who love the Lord Jesus Christ, we desperately need as North American people to view our culture from a missionary perspective. We need to be able to see what Jesus sees, to hear what Jesus hears, to touch what Jesus touches and go where Jesus goes." - Richard Mouw

Our congregation is preparing to embark upon a dynamic    transformation journey to prepare itself for the future God has in mind for us. On this journey we will be introduced to resources and processes designed to help our congregation think afresh about what God is calling us to be and do in this time and place. While on this journey we will also discover how to become flexible, agile, and responsive in today's and tomorrow's turbulent environment, as a faithful and effective community of Christian people - a distinctive missional community.

REV. JIM'S BIBLE STUDY will meet on Sunday, February 28 at 9:30 A.M. for Chapter 10 in your study guide, Barnabus and Paul.  Wednesday's group will meet on March 3 at 12:00 P.M. for Chapter 11 in your study guide, On to Macedonia and Philippi.  Also read Paul's letter to the Galatians.

RESPITE PROVIDERS NEEDED

Imagine you are a parent to a foster, adoptive, birth or kinship child who has difficulty in dealing with his/her emotions and relationships, and has difficult behaviors.  Our Intermountain parents work intensely day to day in the process of attachment, where relationships can get stressful, and parents can become weary.  Time to yourself to refill emotional and functional needs as a parent becomes very important to each child's treatment.  Parents cannot give stability to a child if they aren't emotionally fulfilled themselves!  Respite provides these families with the much needed break to do just that.  Respite is provided to most Intermountain families as a part of his/her child's treatment.  Each child stays with the Respite Family for one weekend (48 hours) per month.  Respite Providers are responsible for providing care in an environment that is safe and nurturing.  Intermountain requires and provides training including but not limited to Intermountain approved interventions, first aide, CPR, and medical issues.  An Intermountain staff member is on-call to deal with any crisis that may arise while the child is in Respite Care.  Respite Providers are paid $65.00 or $85.00 per 48 hour period, depending upon the individual child's treatment level.

If you would like to become a Respite Provider or have any further questions about the program,
please call the Adoption & Family Support Program at Intermountain at 1-800-200-9112.  Thank you!

A note from The YWCA & Mercy Home:

Dear First Congregational UCC,

The YWCA gratefully acknowledges your generous donation of $600 for the YWCA and Mercy Home.  As you may be aware, this shelter provides a safe, supportive environment for women and children from the Great Falls area, but also to those from surrounding communities.

Assistance from our community is very important to all of our programs and we greatly appreciate your consideration.  The staff and board of the YWCA join me thanking you for your generous gift, and for supporting the YWCA.

Thank You,

Autumn Frey

Executive Director

(ed. note: the $600 provided was ¼ of our Christmas Eve offering)
